The truth is – there is no standard countdown or official way to know that you’re ready to take that next step in your life. We are all ready at different times, we are all in serious relationships at various ages, and we all have certain things we need to know before we pop the question.
So what are some of those things? To answer this honestly, I decided there would be no place better to go than to get it straight from the wisest man in my life – my dad.
HOW DID YOU KNOW YOU WERE READY TO PROPOSE TO MOM?
“She was a very practical and down to earth person, we had a similar upbringing and share beliefs with regards to life and other worldly affairs. We liked spending time with each other and I knew we could grow old together. Corny, right?
Also – I knew that I could get along with her family. You don’t just marry the girl, you marry their family too!”
Not corny at all. In fact, I’m so inspired by this answer I felt I absolutely needed to share it with all of our readers and clients. Those small reasons you love your significant other so much? Those are how you will know if you’re ready.
One last thing my dear old dad mentioned that is absolutely key to their success as a happily married couple is this – “I knew she would deal with my faults in stride.”
Love is work, and it requires support much like every other relationship you hold. That’s why the proposal is so invaluable. Show your significant other that you are ready, and set the tone for the rest of your lives spent joyfully together.
Don't even worry, I asked my now fiancé why he proposed to me as well. After all, I know how important the generational gap is to Millennials (and I was obviously curious myself). So he answered:
"I knew when I realized I cared for your well being more than my own. I took a look at my life and honestly couldn't picture it without you in it and really think of you as my partner rather than the person I'm dating. To sum it up in 6 words - my heart wants to protect you."
Yes - I teared up, and no I wasn't expecting that. He surprises me everyday. He also mentioned that he saw my Pinterest board (oops), and knew I'd be down too. So there you go ladies - private isn't always best.
So, we’ll ask you now – seriously. Are you ready to propose?
One & Only will help you to prepare and will ensure you’re comfortable throughout every aspect of this special moment. Don’t let fear and stress stop you from blowing your partner out of the water. They’ll thank you for it later.
